You can never have enough bags....... so why not learn how to make your very own handmade tote bag. Its practical, stylish and a eco - conscious alternative to using plastic carrier bags when you're out and about shopping.
Our 'Bags of Fun' workshop is a great introduction to bag making. Mix and match patterns from our stash of thrifted, vintage and new fabrics to create your very own bag. During the class you'll get to grips with sewing straps, creating flat bottoms, learn about lining and making a button hole.
By the end of the class you’ll take home a stylish and practical handmade tote bag.
You will learn how to do all these things...
· How to make a simple tote bag
· How to create straps
· How to sew a flat bottom into your bag
· How to sew a button hole and hand sew a button
· How to include a lining for inside your bag
· How to topstitch
· Pinning + cutting & ironing techniques
Material included. Fabric, sewing machine thread, vintage buttons.
Basic tools of the trade are also provided* so all you have to do is show up!
*If you have your own sewing machine bring it with you but don’t forget the instruction manual & some spare machine needles.
Classes are small, maximum class number is 8 guests, to ensure you get the personal tuition you need to help with your project and get the best out of each workshop we host. There is also the chance to chat with the other guests and meet like minded new friends!

PLEASE NOTE: This is an intermediate sewing workshop. If you already know your way around the sewing machine, feel comfortable using it, threading, loading the bobbin, back stitching and your able to sew a straight seam, then this class is for you.

Bunting Workshop in Dumfries

Intermediate Sewing Machine Workshop

Who doesn’t love a bit of bunting........I know I certainly do! So why not come and join me at our bunting making workshop. You’ll get to grips with bias binding and master the art of appliqué.
Mix and match patterns from our stash of thrifted, vintage and new fabrics to create your very own garland. Using the technique of appliqué you can learn how to decorate and personalise your bunting for your home sweet home or for to give as a gift for that special someone! Using some pretty motifs and letters you will learn how to transfer your design onto fabric using different appliqué techniques and double sided interfacing.
At the end of the class you’ll take home a length of handmade fabric bunting.

Beginners Sewing Machine Workshop

Never used a sewing machine before? Or just a bit rusty and keen to get back on that pedal? This class is for you! During this 3-hour beginner’s workshop you will learn to use a sewing machine and you'll complete a simple textile project as you pick up heaps of new skills! Take your pick from a selection of vintage, thrifted and new fabrics from my fabric stash to make a pretty cushion cover to take home at the end of class. You’ll also leave with the project pattern so you can create more cushions of your own at home!
You will learn how to do all these things...
· How to thread a machine
· How to change a needle
· How to use the presser foot
· How to fill and load the bobbin
· How to stitch in lovely straight lines and how to get to grips with back stitching
· How to adjust stitch length
· How to stitch a simple hem
· Basic pinning, cutting & ironing techniques
Material included. Fabric, thread & a cushion pad.
